ENVIROCAM™ FOR USE IN "PAT" APPLICATIONS

The EnviroCam Zenith-BL3 is an in situ vision analysis system used in the Biotechnology Industry. EnviroCam "PAT" applications include bubble analysis, and the characterization of bioreactors for Kla calculations.

Process Analytical Technology "PAT" has been defined by the Food and Drug Administration as a mechanism to design, analyze and control pharmaceutical manufacturing processes through the measurement of critical process parameters and quality attributes.

It has been said that one of the challenges with "PAT" is knowing where and how to start. In Biotechnology, an easy and effective way to start is to utilize the EnviroCam to accurately measure and analyze the gas bubbles produced by the sparger. It is well known that bubble size and distribution effect cell growth during the batch.

The EnviroCam Zenith-BL3 provides accurate, first order observation analysis, and documentation of the size and distribution of bubbles coming off of the sparger and how those bubbles change as they travel to different areas of the bioreactor.

Beth Junker, Merck Rahway NJ, received an award from Springer Publications for the “Best Paper of the Year 2007” for the EnviroCam “Feasibility of an in situ measurement device for bubble size and distribution Bioproc Biosyst Engin (2007) 30:313-326”
